Finding an Internship

Dream Careers Internship Coordinator’s assist in revising resume’s before actually scheduling the interview which indicates that each resume is considered and discrimination is less likely. Event Planning is appealing for me because each event is different; keeping the workplace fresh and exciting. This internship specifies planning both personal and corporate events. This would provide great experience, working with both large and small business planning.
2. Travel & Tourism Internships in London:http://www.worldinternships.org/apply-now
13% of Londoner’s are employed in the tourism industry.  Studying abroad would provide me the opportunity to gain international experience. The placement variety is huge in Travel and Tourism with a network of internship coordinators based in each of their locations. More international travelers visit London than any city in the world. Depending on my qualifications, I could work in hotels, travel companies, railroad services and hospitality organizations, all totaling 15 billion Euro a year industry.
The Chicago Internship Program hosted by Dream Careers is the world’s largest internship program for college students. I would receive guaranteed placement, college credit and housing for an 8-week summer internship in one of my most favorite cities. Logistics are covered such as meal plans, transportation and program events to maximize my experience in Chicago. Public Relations is a strong option for me because I do well in approaching people and having a busy schedule.
This Internship is based in San Francisco. This would be an adventure to drive a 15 passenger van and research unfamiliar destinations of North America. I think I would do well in handling group dynamics with my strong leadership skills and I love driving long distances. I would be responsible for daily briefings, relaying historical, geographical and cultural information. These duties require an enthusiastic nature which is a quality I possess.
This intern opportunity is based in nearby Sandy, Utah but will be assisting in planning and executing a world-class event in Park City, Utah. This internship is pays, which is a tremendous perk for me! I have tremendous phone skills which are required and I also find creating new projects to be exciting. This is a more realistic internship for me so I can stay close to my family.

Star Stories

1.    Teamwork is “owning it”. While working at Zion’s Bank as a Financial Service Representative, I was approached by a disgruntled client who was suffering a loss due to an error from another Zion’s Bank location. I took action by freezing her account so there was no further damage and opened a new, temporary account for her to use while resolving the issue on her former account. Even though I was not responsible for the error, I apologized for her suffering and reassured her that I would personally follow through with her situation until the very end. After she had left I made a quick call to the branch where the error occurred and politely explained what had happened so to prevent it from happening again. The client was happy and the other Zion’s location gained from the experience as well. I was also happy to have helped her out!

2.    Under the same employment, the Teller Depositing System was being completely redesigned. Instead of sending each transaction to Head Quarters, we were now required to image every transaction in our branch locations. This was a challenge to learn new equipment and a new method of how the teller line ran. Long-term habits had to be broken and feelings of discomfort and discouragement ran rampant throughout the entire staff. I decided to take action by carrying with me a notebook to write down notes and procedures while learning the new equipment. I gave myself a quick reference when I found myself confused and saw myself adapting quickly. Even the other employees were asking for me for help.

3.    When I first started work at the bank, I felt like a fish out of water. I was a stranger to everyone and I didn’t like the impersonal feeling of unfamiliarity. So I set a goal to introduce myself to every client, everyday. I would offer my name and then ask their name before each transaction. Even from the first day I noticed a profound difference in how relaxed both the client and myself had become. Asking names also opened up opportunities to sell more products and learned more about the clientele.

Action Plan

Freshman Year
I completed Freshman year by living off campus. I took a few jogging classes to keep active. I was first introduced to a debit card but never used a credit card. I attended several LDS institute assemblies. I pursued my vocal performance major by taking mostly music classes and a few electives. I auditioned for everything that came my way with some successes.
Freshman Summer
I spent performing in Jackson Hole as a lead vocalist in a dinner show. I worked as a waitress during the day. I continued to jog and continued my activity as a member of the LDS church.
Sophomore Year
I now have a family at home which is now my priority, so a schedule is important to maintain in order to accomplish anything. My major has changed to Hospitality Management with an emphasis in entertainment in tourism. I have focused on my new direction in courses. Finishing up generals and taking on some classes within my field of study such as Hospitality Management 1010 and Business Management.
Sophomore Summer
Completed 9 credits this summer semester. Mostly on line with a new baby at home. Included a physical fitness class and maintained a strict schedule of balancing home and school.
Junior Year
Take a full load this semester. Find pageants, competitions and performances that I can be involved in. Shadow talent judges and look for an internship such a vocal coach aid or begin teaching students of my own. Maintain a strict schedule to balance home and school.
Junior Summer
Ask for a letter of recommendation from my internship and focus on taking 9 credits this semester. Continue my internship and interview professional vocalists and pageant consultants as well as local spa’s and resorts. Continue teaching my own students and build client base. My husband graduates with his Bachelor’s and we are currently applying to jobs in his field. We will be relocating according to where he finds a career. Upon establishing residency, I will promptly find my daughters kindergarten registration, community involvement and registering for my online classes. Attend all church meeting and perform to my greatest ability in my service within my church and neighbors.
Senior Year
Immediately visit my career center for support that might be available to me. Begin to systematically identify alumni who can give career advice; learn how to conduct an effective information interview. Support my family at home and support my husband in his career by creating a healthy home. Maintain church activity.
Polish my resume. Polish the curriculum for my vocal students and start looking for upcoming pageants that I can consult or judge.
After Graduation
Graduate Spring 2015 in Hospitality Management. Continue to find seminars, classes, achievements, etc. to better qualify me as a vocalist. Never stop looking for more ways to learn. Audition for parts even if I’m not interested them and maintain involvement with at least 2 community activities. Take voice lessons and give voice lessons. Stay active and passionate about music.
When my kids are in school full time I plan on going on to graduate school. Concentrate on my roll as a wife and mother before my professional career. Make my second priority my church involvement. Always working to build upon my Spirituality and magnify my calling in my church.
At this point in life I would like to sell our home that is being rented and buy a home in our current place of residence. Other than our home, we will be debt free and on our way to saving and investing. Emergency fund will total our 6 month income and investing will be carefully and frugally chosen. A new family vehicle will be paid for in cash with the money we hope to make from selling our current vehicles and some money we make off of selling our home.
