Mock Interview

Mock Interview
Z Neilson, Financial Planner
Allstate Insurance
Eden, Utah
This experience was useful as a dress rehearsal is useful for the opening night. Even though I may know all the lines, I needed to rehears my timing and cues, so-to-speak. Such as not interrupting the interviewer, and sitting after he sits and answering the questions directly.
The most difficult answer for me is when he said “Tell me about yourself”. I forgot exactly what I rehearsed, and felt like I was rambling about useless information. Because this was the easiest topic in an interview, I practiced it less than the other questions and it showed in the interview. And it was the first question, so I needed to recover in order to begin on good footing.
The advice I would share about interviewing is that less is more. If the interviewer wants to know more about you he will ask you to expound. Run-on sentences are not impressive.
What I learned, 1) research the job before the interview 2) remember the name of the interviewer, which is easily forgotten when you are concentrating on so much going on 3) Even though I might look nice and professional, make sure to wear shoes that don’t make me stumble, or skirts that appear too short when sitting down!
What I will improve on, 1) making complete sentences, instead of ending with “and so…” 2) prepare a well-rehearsed response when ask to describe myself. 3) I will find the location of the office before going to the interview, in case the directions are confusing and I have trouble finding the place. Even though I was on time, next interview I would like to be 15 min early.
