Final Reflection

I had the idea at the beginning of this semester that this course was going to be grueling and pointless for two reasons. 1- I had to re-take this class from years ago when I was exploring my career. Now I am well established and focused in my life and I didn’t need the guidance as an 18 year old freshman would. 2- I knew this course, though only 2 credits, would take more time than all of my 5 classes combined. Now, in hind sight, though the work load is overwhelming and unnecessary in this class, I have learned adequate and applicable tools that have elevated my place as a student and as mother. I enjoyed learning what my skills and personality types can do for my career, how I can use them in my interaction with others. I also valued the exercises in finding the details of what careers are available, what they are paying and how they compare on a local scale as well as an interactional scale. I now have references provided through the assignments in this course that I can return to and use as later reference in building a career.
This course has helped me to zero in on the specifics of my priorities and scheduling those priorities. As I plan to graduate in the spring, 2015 in Hospitality Management, I will continue to find seminars, classes, achievements, etc. to better qualify me as a vocalist and never stop looking for opportunities to improve. And when my kids are all in school full-time, I plan on going on to graduate school to further my education and better qualify myself as a business owner.
My role as wife and mother always comes first, my religious faith second, my education is my next most important quality to establish and build upon. My sort term and long term goals have been better defined as I have explored this course. By maintaining and implementing my short term goals, I am more reminded of sustaining my long-term goals. There is a lot of peace of mind that comes along with knowing I am on track and I am fulfilling my goals, as well as being pro-active with my time and energy. I am currently crossing a poignant road in my life as my husband is graduating with his Bachelors this summer and pursuing his career, and wherever located, can very well be where we will raise our family. But with the tools and goals I have learned in this course, I am better prepared for this exciting time.
